This is the third and final part of the “series” because let’s get real, we are all tired of hearing about it. We have talked about our personal life but haven’t really touched on how it affected sports, hunter, and most importantly football season. Better yet, it has been a while since I have really talked about anything football related. To be quite honest, it is really hard to get motivated to write about something that has been at a complete standstill.
So flash back to March and all sports have been completely stopped. When everything was pulled spring break we honestly thought we would be going back to school in May. H, his boss, and other coaches were discussing plans of how they would finish out seasons when we got to come back. Well flash forward a couple weeks and there was no going back. Instead the talk became if we go back.
Not only was it “if we get to go back” but other questions such as “are we going to have a football season” started to stir. Honestly, this scared the crap out of me. We were able to handle this in the spring because of where we were at as a family with a newborn keeping us busy. All I could think about was I don’t know if our sanity will make it without football. Seriously. If you know us then you know that it is our life from August to December.
I was more worried for H. He lives for football. The summers are spent at the field house getting ready for the season. This means they get to start summer workouts and seeing the boys again. I prayed every day that he would get to go back. I could not imagine us starting a school year and him just being a teacher. I know there is nothing wrong with that, but he has a heart for athletes and a connection to football.
Luckily they have been able to start their strength and conditioning program this week, of course with restrictions. They are able to lift some of these restrictions at the end of the month and we are hoping that by the time July rolls around, everything is back to running normal. This gives me great hope that we will have a fall football season. More importantly, the athletes need this back in their lives. the 2020 senior class got their final spring seasons taken from them and I do not want to see the class of 2021 start their year off this way too.
Of course, once the season rolls around I will want the long days of having him home. H has a love for the game and I know that he is meant to be on the field. Kb will also be at the age where he understands what this means to us and he will love watching his daddy and the “football boys” every Friday night. I also want MT to be able to experience his first season just like KB did at the tiny age. There is nothing better than watching the person you love the most doing what he loves. COVID-19 please be nice to us and all the football loving fans.
