Disclaimer: I am in no way shape or form a make-up guru. I literally wore black eye-shadow in high school and knew nothing about make-up. I still really don’t know anything about make-up. I honestly don’t even think I started wearing make-up until I was in college and let me tell you it still wasn’t very pretty then.
I feel like just these past few years is when I actually have become comfortable walking into Ulta and Sephora and looking at their products without hiding in the aisles. I have learned a lot just by watching make-up tutorials or videos of people putting on make-up in their instagram stories.
Today I wanted to share with you what I use. I only use this make-up routine on the weekends when we go places or when I am shooting. This is not my everyday make-up routine because 1. it gets expensive and 2. I teach high school students. I could care less about what make-up I use to see them every day. Maybe one day I will show you my everyday make-up routine and then you will really see you how much I don’t know about make-up. But in the meantime, here are the products I use, love, and help me feel a little bit better about myself!
Products
primer: there isn’t one pictured but let me explain. i used to use one then i ran out and never bought another one. i don’t know its purpose so if someone wants to explain that to me, feel free to! and then maybe i will go back to using one.
foundation: i have tried so many all the way from drugstore to the expensive brands. i had been eyeing this one for a year or so and i finally bit the bullet and bought it last christmas. it is a little bit more on the pricier side but i just now bought my second bottle. granted i don’t use it everyday but it did last me from december to april. i would say i have pretty normal skin. it’s not oily and it’s not dry. i just have the normal breakouts that i have to cover up every now and then and this does the trick! i go back and forth between using a brush and a sponge. i feel like the brush blends better but the sponge doesn’t use so much product. currently i am using a sponge and it has been working so far! also, don’t spend the extra money for a pump when you buy this foundation, instead i found one here that is much cheaper and works just as good! shade: ivory nude
concealer: hands down my favorite concealer. it will be pretty hard for me to find one that compares. it lasts all day, doesn’t move, and i love the bright eye that it gives this tired mom! i apply this heavily under my eyes and then blend it with a sponge! i don’t use any kind of fancy sponges. i found these and they work great and are such a great price! shade: fair
setting powder: again, i don’t even know much about this product but my sister told me i needed it and i love what it does for my make-up! i put this on over my foundation and concealer with a brush and let it “bake.” i’ve heard you can use a sponge but i have found that my brush works just as well. this setting powder helps me get that smooth finishing touch and helps my make-up stay on all day long! shade: translucent
loose powder: i don’t put this on every single time. but when i do remember to use it, i like the finishing touch that it gives my foundation and it adds a little bit more color to my face. it doesn’t take very much either! i got this one in december and i am not even close to running out! shade: fair ivory
bronzer and highlighter: next, i attempt to contour my face. first i apply my bronzer to my cheek bones and my hairline. then i apply my highlighter under my eyes to give them a little bit more brightness. i use brushes for both of these steps shade: light medium shift
blush: i go back and forth if i am a blush girl or not and that is exactly why i use this random one i found at ulta one day. i apply blush on my cheeks and all the way to my cheek bones and then blend it in real good after i get done. shade: fiji fun
eyeliner: i HATE eyeliner. i can never get it right and i am not that good at it. i like to do just a thin line above my eye just to help make them pop. i also just realized i forgot to include this in the photo.
mascara: i LOVE this mascara. it is a drugstore brand and i will most likely never switch to anything else.
eyeshadow: i use the palette pictured above and then i use a drugstore palette that is similar to the naked palette because it has more of a shimmer. the naked basics is a matte palette. i love them both and i honestly play around with them everyday. some days i go dark and others i go with a lighter shimmer.
eyebrows: i literally just started filling them in last week hince the elf eyebrow pencil, but it is actually really good! i have ever felt like i needed to fill them in because my eyebrows are already pretty dark and thick. i just started to fill them in very lightly just to kind of make everything look complete.
setting spray: i also just purchased this last winter. i love the dewy look that is gives me! i also think it helps my make-up stay in place. i am sure there are cheaper versions that work just as well!
whew, if you are still with me then props to you! once again, i am not a make-up perfectionist but i just wanted to share what i use and love! it may look like a lot but my make-up takes me less time than my hair! the key to make-up is playing around with it until you find what works for you!
