Father’s Day

June 13, 2019

This year will be H’s second father’s day, but I wanted to give him the recognition that he deserves without being too mushy. I think we can both agree as parents that KB is in the “get into everything” stage, and that causes our patience to be tested at times.

Last week H had the pleasure of staying home with KB all day. Now, I know that my husband can handle everything himself, but I made sure to pray for him as I left the house Monday morning. I know that KB is everywhere and wants to do every single thing that you are doing. At times this can be tough and many meltdowns are sure to be had, but I just want to say…

Thank you for being the Dad that KB has dreamed about and I have prayed for. You are a wonderful father and will be a great mentor to him when he gets older. Thank you for being you. You are more patient with him than I am most days, and you always know what he wants and what he needs. Not many people can jump into the role of a father like you have. There were many sleepless nights when he was a newborn and you have always been right by our side through everyone of them.

I know that there are days that I don’t tell you enough how much I appreciate all you do for our family. I don’t tell you enough how much I love you. I don’t tell you enough how much I care. I blame it on being too busy, and not having enough time for just the two of us. Our world has changed and I think that we can both agree that this dude is the best thing that has ever happened to us.

When KB was put into the hospital just a month after being born, it was so calming to see your protective side take over with the doctors and nurses. You always asked the questions that needed to be asked and somehow, took care of a worrisome mom and sick baby while we were in there. We appreciate your support and the role that you have played in our lives. Everything that you do, you do for us. Every decision that is made is for us and our future. I am thankful for the never ending support and dedicated love that you provide for us.

You are never selfish and always put our needs before yours. You work long days and late nights but no matter what, you are always there when we need something. We know that we can always count on you. I’ve watched you hold, feed, and change him. I’ve watched you teach him how to walk, high five, and say “da-da”. I’ve watched you grow into a dad.  Your honesty, work ethic, morals, and essence of who you are is something that I hope KB takes from you.

So thank you for being the father that KB deserves. We both love and appreciate you more than we will ever be able to put into words. (especially KB, since he can’t talk yet) You balance us, protect us, and most importantly keep me sane. You make us smile and love us when things get tough. You are the glue that holds this house together and you constantly remind us that chivalry is alive and well. We feel your love and support daily, and we love that you work so hard for us. KB is grateful for a dad that spends time with him, makes him laugh, and makes sure he knows that he is loved each and every day.

Father’s day only happens once a year, but the appreciation and love is year-round. Thank you for being such a strong, loving, and inspiring man for our family. You make fatherhood look so good!
