You blow out your candles on your twentieth birthday and society just expects you to have everything figured out. You thought your teen and high school years were confusing? By age 20, you should be a productive adult who has everything. A career, one or two degrees, and a place to live. Most of us feel like we are the furthest thing from being in the adult stage. We want recess and vacations to come back to us but we are forced to lay a foundation for the rest of our life. No pressure.

While I am on the tail end into my second decade, here is what I have learned so far.

  1. You can’t plan out your life.
  2. Learn to say no.
  3. Choose to be nice.
  4. No one knows what they are doing.
  5. Quality over quantity.
  6. Failure brings success.
  7. Don’t play the comparison game.
  8. Figuring yourself out happens outside of your comfort zone.
  9. Love yourself and make yourself a priority.
  10. Get rid of bad habits.
  11. Stop worrying about what other people think.
  12. Surround yourself with people who make you a better person.
  13. Everything will work out the way it is supposed to.
  14. Do what makes you happy.
  15. Your college degree does not define all the possibilities that you have.
  16. You can’t please everyone.
  17. Work hard for what you want.
  18. Always trust your gut.
  19. Enjoy the little things in life.
  20. Be yourself.

So remember this when you are sinking and thinking “what in the world am I going to do with my life?” Believe me, I have been there and I would say that it has all worked out fairly well.
